You’re Not Here To Be Liked

So I posted this tweet last night after I read John 8:7

Now I know this may sound like a radical tweet but the core message is true and solid: we are not here for people to like us, we are here to preach the truth IN LOVE! Nowadays I really feel like the church is trying to be gentle with the message of the gospel, tiptoeing around trying not to hurt anyone’s feelings but that’s exactly what the gospel does! The gospel is supposed to offend because it’s exposing the darkness in peoples lives and showing them that they are in need of a Saviour.

MATTHEW 10:34 “Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.”

These are the very words of Jesus Himself. Jesus didn’t come here intending to start fights with people but he understood that the message of the kingdom will not always be comfortable for people to hear. Some will believe and some won’t. He came to bring something that would turn sons against fathers and mothers against daughters. This is the effect of the gospel! Now, I’m not saying that we should become judgemental hate preachers, but rather we shouldn’t water down our approach nor our message just so we don’t offend/are accepted by the world.

If you want to be a successful witness and child of God than you need to understand a pretty simple concept that Jesus taught us: “The world will hate you because it hated me”– Matthew 10:22. If you’re having a hard time coming to terms with this then your testimony of the gospel will always lack power and authenticity because instead of telling people the truth about the kingdom of God you’ll be more focused on their feelings and comfort.

Do not allow this to stop you from being who God has called you to be. Let go of fear, let go of the need to be accepted and allow God to work in you so that you can cause transformation through the preaching of the gospel.
