Intimacy challenge day 5
Philippians 4:6-7 AMP
Do not fret or have any anxiety about anything, but in every circumstance and in everything, by prayer and petition (definite requests), with thanksgiving, continue to make your wants known to God.
And God’s peace shall be yours, that tranquil state of a soul assured of its salvation through Christ, and so fearing nothing from God and being content with its earthly lot of whatever sort that is, that peace which transcends all understanding shall garrison and mount guard over your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
One thing that I can definitely testify about is that praying for the peace of God actually works! Some time ago one friend advised me to ask God to bring peace into a situation that I was going through, which I did and saw immediate results. Ever since that day whenever I’m in a circumstance that I need help with I always ask God for peace and I always advise people to do the same.
Peace is important because one of God’s names is Jehova Shalom (The Lord sends peace). Also there was a high priest in the Old Testament called Melchizedek Who was a foreshadow of Jesus and he was the king of Salem (king of peace). So we can clearly see that God specialises in peace and as Christians this works in our favour because wherever there is an atmosphere of peace the enemy has no authority there!
You cannot defeat the enemy with a mind full of anger, confusion, bitterness, unforgiveness, lust and the list goes on. Whenever you have a mind full of the things previously mentioned then the enemy has control because you’ve embraced his characteristics and are now allowing him to dictate how you think and feel and you cannot make clear and accurate decisions in this state. This is why it is very important for you to pray for peace because when you do you give God the authority, he takes control and there will be a complete turn around in your atmosphere and in your circumstance/situation.
The prophets in the old Testament when they had to prophesy during the war they would ask for instruments to be played. The reason why they did this was so they could drown out the sound of war and establish an atmosphere of peace during a time of confusion and violence. When you pray for peace you are literally doing the same thing. You are a drowning out the sounds of your current situation and preparing the platform for God!
Challenge: meditate on the scripture at the beginning of this post. Then think of situations that you need God to help you in and invite him in to them areas. Make your requests known on to God, don’t hold back and be completely honest with him. Then once you have done these things asked God to give you a peace that passes your understanding.
